Source: Indianapolis News Thurs 28 May 1914 p 11

Ladoga, May 28 - Word was received here today of the death of Dr. Mary Widdop, age 45 years, assistant physician at Longcliff, a hospital for the insane at Logansport.  Dr. Widdop was a former resident of Ladoga.  Leaving here 11 years ago, she went to Indianapolis where she was graduated from Indiana Medical College and then went to Lafayette where she was superintendent of nurses for five years at the Soldiers' home.  She then went to Longcliff and since had been assistant physician and had established an enviable record.  Miss Widdop's death last night was due to Bright's disease, with which she had been afflicted for several months.  Mr. and Mrs. William Widdop, her parents were born in England. They met in New York city and were married there. They came to Ladoga many years ago and Mr. Widdop established a merchant tailoring business.  Both parents died a number of years ago.  William Widdop and Miss Margaret Widdop, brother and sister of Dr. Mary Widdop live in Indianapolis. It is probable that the body will be brought to Ladoga for burial.

Note: Mary was returned to ladoga where she grew up and received an excellent education to go on to become an early female doctor.  She was born the last day (31 Dec) of 1869 and died 26 May 1914.
